Why We Choose Organic Ingredients

Why We Choose Organic Ingredients
Back in the day, organic food was relatively hard to come by unless you lived by a farm. You would need to find a "natural food store" that sold organic products because your local supermarket very rarely carried any.
Today, organic food is widely available. You can find organic meat, dairy, veggies, and fruits at the local supermarket. What does "organic" actually mean? Is it worth the extra price tag? And why does Revival Ice Cream use organic ingredients?
Let's find out!

What does organic mean?

"Organic" refers to the way farmers and producers grow and process agricultural products. Multi-ingredient organic foods cannot contain synthetic fertilizers and pesticides, antibiotics, hormones, or artificial ingredients. Certified organic products must contain at least 95% organic ingredients.
Organic and "natural" are not the same thing! There are a lot of "natural" ingredients that are not considered organic. Natural just means it has no artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives. It does not address the methods or materials used to make the ingredients in the product.

Is Organic Food Better?

According to an article from the Mayo Clinic, organic foods show some evidence of being better in nutrition and overall health impact.
They show a small to moderate increase in nutritional benefits, notably antioxidant properties. Organic meat, dairy, and eggs show a higher amount of Omega-3 fatty acids, which is a heart-healthy fat.
Organic grains show a decrease in cadmium, which is a toxic metal that is in the soil and absorbed by plants. " The lower cadmium levels in organic grains may be related to the ban on synthetic fertilizers in organic farming."
And organic produce has a lower level of pesticide residue. No one likes pesticides on their food!

Why does Revival use local, organic dairy and organic unrefined cane sugar?

This is a topic near and dear to our hearts. We appreciate the value of our environment, eating in a way that supports the Earth, and understanding how what we eat affects the health of our bodies. Our choices matter.
We believe the benefits are absolutely worth the extra costs associated with organic products. We know where the food came from and how it was treated before putting it into our bodies.
This was the inspiration for Revival Ice Cream; to create a treat that was 100% handcrafted, using only the freshest and organic ingredients!

From farming practices to nutritional value; every step truly matters.

Organic milk farmers are upheld to higher standards. The cows have to spend a good portion of their year grazing in the field. This makes for a happier cow, planet, and healthier people!  Compared to conventional dairy plants where cows are not treated fairly, organic milk also has a higher nutritional content and is free of antibiotics and hormones!
Now for sugar. Yes, sugar is sugar but organic sugar doesn’t go through the refining process, which means it keeps the riboflavin and magnesium intact! Read more about our sugar choices and why we don't make sugar free ice cream.
How food is grown, produced, and distributed affects all of us. One of Revival's core values is running our business in the most sustainable way, by supporting farmers who are growing food organically.
We put quality before anything else. We want to serve you ice cream you can feel great about eating!
